How to get fit for skiing and start the season in style

esquiar-grandvalira

Snow lovers are celebrating! Grandvalira has announced that the season starts on 3 December and that we can finally put on our ski boots again after almost a year and a half. After so long without skiing and less than two months before the start of the season, the time has come to prepare yourself to arrive in the best physical condition. Get ready for the ski season Plan a workout with exercises that strengthen the areas of the body that work hardest when skiing, which are the legs, lower back and abdominal muscles as well as the muscles of the shoulder girdle. While you focus on gaining strength you must not forget balance, which plays a very important role when skiing, and endurance to last 5 to 6 hours skiing or snowboarding. It is recommended to start specific training about 8 weeks beforehand, with a frequency of about two to three days a week, and to combine that with physical exercise throughout the year. Physical preparation is important to avoid injuries (the main ones are usually knee, clavicle, falls and back pain due to constant stress). Incorporating elements such as the bosu and fitball into your training programme is ideal for working on coordination and balance. Adapt your training to your skiing discipline Depending on the discipline in which you ski, you will have to adapt your programme with more specific exercises. If you snowboard, you will need to include exercises to strengthen the lateral ligaments, as well as strengthening the shoulder girdle. If backcountry skiing is your thing, you’ll have to bear in mind that the hips and the front part of the legs are what you’ll be exercising the most on the ascents. Now that you know that the slopes will open in less than two months, you can start training and book our Grandvalira ski pass offer with 3* hotel at the foot of the slopes.

A getaway to Andorra to round off the summer

Summer is not over yet! September is the ideal month to enjoy a getaway to Andorra. The good temperatures invite you to take advantage of the many outdoor activities on offer in the country. We’ve compiled the best plans to make the most of the last days of summer on your getaway. Enjoy outdoor activities until autumn If the forecast holds true, this year the adventure parks will be open every day until mid-September and on weekends until the long weekend in October. But another suggestion for your getaway to Andorra during the last days of summer is a hiking route through the mountains to summit a peak or reach one of the country’s most famous lakes. You can also take the opportunity to climb up to the Roc del Quer, the viewpoint near the hotel, or go to the new solar viewpoint of Tristaina, in Arcalís. We talked about it in the last blog post. Visit the most curious museums in Andorra This is a good opportunity to plan a route to discover the curiosities and history of Andorra through its house museums, such as Areny-Plandolit in Ordino, the Casa Cristo in Encamp or the Casa Rull, in Sispony. We suggest another, more alternative route through Andorra’s most original and curious museums. These include the miniature museum in Ordino, the collector’s museum in Pal and the recently renovated bicycle museum. This year, the “summer nights” (an event that starts at the beginning of July and whose leisure and cultural programme includes more than 50 nights with activities) will be extended until 18 September. So in September, you can also enjoy a different kind of evening in a museum, with entertainment, dramatised tours and live music. These are the “Summer Nights” programmed for the month of September (prior booking required): • 01/09 – “Sumpta” : Dramatised visit at the Areny-Plandolit House in Ordino, at 8pm and 9.30pm. Free admission. Bookings on: +376 836908 • 04/09 – “Anton Fiter and Rossell are waiting for a visit” : Dramatised visit to the Old Town of Andorra la Vella. Book in advance and buy tickets at: +376 750100 • 11/09 – Concert “Reverie, poetic and eclectic” : Guitar solo concert by Marc Pià at the Casa Rull Museum. Free admission. Reservations on : +376 836908 • 14/09 – Guided visit of the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition, at 8.30 pm and 10 pm. Free admission. Reservations at : +376 802255 • 18/09 – Cello and violin concert in the Era Gran of Casa Rossell. Free admission. Reservations at : +376 836908 Discover the country with the tourist bus on your trip to Andorra. It runs until 30 October, from Monday to Sunday with a different route every day. All you have to do is choose which aspect of Andorra you want to see. The itineraries are with audio guide, half day, except for the one on Saturday which also includes lunch. Entrance fees to monuments and museums are included in the price of the route. It is a good alternative to leave the car parked on your trip to Andorra and discover the country. So… whether you’ve already taken your summer holidays or you’re saving them for September, a trip to Andorra with a mountain hotel and the best things to do is a must in your diary ?

Visit the new viewpoint of Andorra this summer

belvedere-solaire

By now you probably know that Andorra has a new viewpoint that opened last July in Ordino-Arcalís. If you’re thinking of coming for your summer holidays, don’t miss this new spot where you can enjoy breathtaking views. We will tell you all about its curiosities. It is located on a peak Specifically on the Peyreguils peak at an altitude of 2,701 metres. From this point you can admire the Tristaina lakes from a bird’s eye view. As well as the other peaks, and thanks to its geographical location, you can also see the Auzat Valley in France and the Pica d’Estats in Catalan territory. As well as the entire Ordino-Arcalís valley. It is a clock that marks solar time It is a suspended circular metal structure with a diameter of 25 metres. It has a circular walkway 1.25 metres wide so you can walk along it and enjoy the magnificent views. In the middle, you will see a 27-metre-high mast that marks the time on the metal structure. The solar mountain of Arcalís The Arcalís peak is one of the mountains that crowns this valley and can be seen from the Tristaina viewpoint. It has the particularity that it is home to a unique natural phenomenon: once a year, every 7 August at 7:37 a.m., you can see how the sun passes through a hole in the mountain. How to get to the Tristaina viewpoint? It is very simple. You have to go to Ordino Arcalís resort, in the other valley. Take the Tristaina cable car that will take you from the Hortell to the La Coma restaurant, where you will take the Creussans chairlift to almost the foot of the peak. The journeys take 5 and 15 minutes respectively. Finally, you will have to climb up to the viewpoint along an uncomplicated mountain path, which you will walk along for about 15 minutes. The walk and the views until you reach the viewpoint are worth it. This summer you have one more reason to come to Andorra, we’ll be waiting for you!

Andorra-Mountain-Music

Choose the mountains for your summer holidays this month: you won’t regret it. On the contrary, once you try it, you’ll want to come back every year. Here are 5 immediate benefits that the mountains have on your wellbeing to convince you. 1. Holidays in the mountains = total switch-off Leaving your usual place of residence guarantees you an immediate change of mind, so you start to slow down, stop and enjoy your surroundings. Contact with nature makes you notice things that are different from your everyday life, such as the flora and fauna around you, and is a good reason to relax. 2. You will discover new landscapes Andorra has more than 100 lakes, countless mountain hiking trails and 3 natural parks (Vall del Madriu-Perafita-Claror, Comapedrosa and Sorteny) to discover a unique natural environment. You can even go hiking in the only natural area declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you climb a peak, a lake or go on a mountain route, you’ll discover new places. 3. You’ll get in shape without even realising it. The setting makes it easy for you to choose the activities you like best in Andorra. There are countless mountain excursions of different levels, even for young children. If you are a cycling enthusiast, you can ride along one of the cycle touring routes or climb a mythical mountain pass, the scene of the Tour or the Tour of Spain. If you like climbing and via ferrata routes, you can also enjoy them in Andorra. If you choose a mountain holiday, you’ll have a great time and you’ll be physically active in the fresh air. 4. Outdoor activities with the whole family In summer the ski resorts become adventure parks where you can enjoy with your children with activities for young and old. Near the hotel there is the Mon(t) Magic, in the Canillo sector of Grandvalira, in Vallnord you will find the Mountain Park and the Bike Park with 29 mountain bike circuits and in Sant Julià there is Naturlandia with its Tobotronc. You have so much to choose from that no member of the family will be bored. 5. You’ll sleep better! In the mountains the temperatures are more pleasant. During the day you will be able to enjoy the sun and the good weather, and at night you will sleep better without being overwhelmed by the typical heat of these summer days. And one advantage of summer nights in the mountains is that you can see the stars in the sky. Doesn’t that sound nice? 3 lakes in Andorra to make the most of nature this summer

3-lacs-andorre

We give you ideas for discovering 3 lakes in Andorra in an accessible way and with the whole family. Will you join us? Art and nature at Engolasters Lake If you’ve been to Andorra, you’ve probably already visited or heard about this lake. It is very easy to access and the route is very pleasant. Once you park your car, all you have to do is go down to the shore and walk around it. This summer, you’ll also come across the international art biennial: Land’art, which means that as you walk around you’ll see sculptures and other works of art that decorate the landscape. Walk along the lake, but also along the Les Pardines path. It’s an easy 3 km walk that leads to Els Cortals de Encamp, an ideal place to work up an appetite. So take the opportunity to eat in one of the restaurants near the lake. The Pessons lakes Near the hotel is the route to these lakes. All you have to do is get to the car park in the Grau Roig sector of Grandvalira and start walking. Up to the first lake the route is easy and you reach the refuge where you can stop for lunch or a drink. Depending on your level, you can reach the other lakes and end up at the Pessons pass, from where you can enjoy impressive views of all the lakes. If you are an experienced mountaineer and are used to this type of route, we recommend it. The Tristaina Lakes in the other valley To get to these lakes you will have to go towards Arcalís. This route is perhaps one of the best known in the country. It is made up of three lakes: Primer, Mig (in the middle) and Més Amunt (higher up). You will enjoy an accessible route at an altitude of 2,3000 metres and you will be able to admire Andorra’s most emblematic nature at close quarters. Some recommendations for going to the mountains Although the routes are easy to access, we recommend that you go prepared. Take suitable footwear and a thin waterproof jacket, as the weather can change abruptly in the mountains. Remember to bring a bottle of water to cool off from the high temperatures, a cap and sun cream to protect you from the sun. If you are going to go hiking in the mountains, be well informed before you start your route. Make the most of the summer by discovering these three lakes in Andorra that you’re going to love. You can also book a hotel with us to be much closer to nature.
