It’s a suitable sport for everyone, which you can take up whenever you want, as well as being a great alternative to alpine skiing or to combine with other snow activities if you’re coming for a longer getaway. So this season you still have the chance to try ski mountaineering and spend a great Easter week in Andorra. Don’t worry about the equipment, as you can rent it at any ski equipment shop. The Natura ski pass for ski-mountaineering and snowshoeing circuits All you need is the Natura ski pass, which is valid for the ski and snowshoe circuits and gives access to some of the lifts when the resort is open. Vallnord, Grandvalira and Nartuland have their own ski passes and have their own prices, but it is cheaper than the ski pass to the slopes (although if you already have your seasonal alpine ski pass, it also allows you to practice ski mountaineering in the resort). Bear in mind that there are certain opening hours for ski touring: the opening hours of the resort and in some cases from 7 am to 9 am and from 5.30 pm to 10 pm. From 10pm to 7am it is forbidden. Ski mountaineering in Grandvalira The resort offers 15 marked ski mountaineering circuits and snowshoeing routes. As we have already pointed out, if you do not have a season ski pass, to ski mountaineering in Grandvalira you need the Forfait Natura, which allows you to use certain lifts located in the sectors of Canillo, El Tarter (near the hotel), Soldeu, Pas de la Casa and Encamp. This season Grandvalira has created new skimo circuits linking the Soldeu, El Tarter and Canillo sectors with a total of 22 kilometres and a difference in altitude of 4,500 metres. In Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa you will also find circuits for all levels. If you wish, you can hire mountain guides who will show you the most secret spots and you will be sure to visit the most beautiful places in Grandvalira. The world’s fastest ski racers are back in Grandvalira. From the 31st of March to the 2nd of April, one of the most eagerly awaited events of the winter in Andorra returns: the finals of the Speed Skiing World Cup. Experience one of Grandvalira’s major sporting events live! The Speed Skiiing finals 2 weeks after hosting the finals of the Alpine skiing European Cup, Grandvalira hosts a new final, this time in the speed skiing event. The resort has extensive experience in hosting World Cup events, and has already hosted the World Championships on two occasions. The competition will take place on the Riberal piste, the only one in Grandvalira adapted for speed skiing events. It has a total length of 900 metres, with a braking zone of 450 metres. It has an impressive start tower 10 m. high and 18 m. long, the maximum slope is 74% and the gradient is 200m. It is located in the Grau Roig sector and can be reached by skiing from El Tarter via the Coma Blanca chairlift on the Menera piste or, once in Pas de la Casa, via the Font Negre chairlift on the Black slope. If this season you are considering learning to ski, snowboard or perfect your technique, in Grandvalira you will find options adapted to your level with qualified instructors, both for you and your children. Ski lessons in Grandvalira The resort offers lessons to get you started in skiing or snowboarding or to improve your technique. You’ll find courses by level: beginner, intermediate or advanced. In addition, when you have acquired a good level, you can sign up for freeride or freestyle courses. On the one hand, there are the group courses in which you will find yourself in a group with people of the same level as you and in which you can choose the language in which it is taught whenever possible. The classes are 3 hours a day, and last from 2 to 5 days. As a novelty, this season you can choose a 1-day course for beginners. There are also classes for children from 6 to 11 years old. If you choose to take private lessons, the resort guarantees that the lessons will be given in the language of your choice, as well as adapting the class to your needs and preferences. In private classes you can add additional people (from the same family or friends for example) up to a maximum of 10 people in the Soldeu, El Tarter and Canillo sectors, or 6 people in Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig and Encamp. Excitement is back in Grandvalira. From 14 to 20 March, it is hosting the new finals of the men’s and women’s Alpine skiing European Cup. The World Cup slopes: Àliga in the El Tarter sector, 200 metres from the hotel, and Avet in Soldeu are the stars of the event. A total of 4 events will be held: slalom, downhill, giant slalom and supergiant. Here are all the details of the competition so that you don’t miss a thing. The Alpine Ski World Cup slopes La Àliga is located in the El Tarter sector of Grandvalira, just 200 metres from the hotel. This slope is where the speed competitions take place, as its characteristics allow skiers to reach speeds of up to 120km/hour. It is also famous for its snowpark, which has also been the venue for several top-level sporting events such as some editions of the Total Fight Masters of Freestyle. The Avet is located in Soldeu, and it was the first to receive the distinction of the FIS (International Ski Federation) and the first to host a competition of these characteristics. In 2008 it hosted a men’s European Cup event. Over the years, the two slopes have hosted several events until 2019, when Grandvalira became the host of the Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals.
