But if you can’t make it on the first date, save this article to enjoy these ideas throughout the season. Discover a new way to go down the slopes with Snake Gliss Head to the Soldeu sector when the ski slopes close for this plan. Once everyone is gone, the fun begins! You’ll enjoy sliding down the Soldeu slopes on an articulated sled driven by a guide, taking you through different routes you might have skied during the day. It’s one of the must-try activities in Grandvalira, and you can even enjoy it with your children aged 3 and above. Be the first to step on the snow Grandvalira offers you the chance to ski almost alone and be among the first to glide on the snow. You’ll have to wake up a bit earlier, but you’ll experience a unique feeling. The “first snow” activity takes place from 8h to 9h, and you must purchase the ski pass in advance; a medium-high skiing level is also required. At El Tarter hotel, we can help you with reservations to enjoy one of Grandvalira’s most spectacular activities. Explore the forests of Grandvalira Without a doubt, this is one of Grandvalira’s most popular activities, and no wonder. Riding through the forest on a dog sled is a unique experience. You can enjoy this adventure on the circuits set up in Riba Escorxada, in the El Tarter sector, at the foot of the hotel, or in the Grau Roig adventure activity centre. Along the route, spectacular landscapes await you in surroundings that will leave you speechless. Mushing is ideal to enjoy with friends, as a couple or as a family, and you can choose between being the driver or relaxing as a passenger. Feel the adrenaline rush on the zipline The last two activities in Grandvalira can be done on the same day, at Mon(t) Magic in the Canillo sector. To access, head to the Canillo cable car just 5 minutes by car from the hotel. The first activity is sliding down the zipline that flies over the Forn lake; it’s 550 meters long and 40 meters high. You can take the ride seated, in a horizontal position, or in tandem with a child. You’ll love it! Have fun on the Magic Gliss The second activity in Canillo is the mountain slide in Grandvalira. The Magic Gliss has a 555-meter downhill and a 180-meter uphill track, reaching up to 40 km/h, and children from 3 years old can join, accompanied by an adult. Shooting stars shower, a show you can’t miss

Étoiles-Filantes-Perséides

If there’s one thing we especially like in summer, it’s the evenings. As well as enjoying festivals, terraces, going out until the early hours of the morning… one of the most popular activities are walks under the stars. The skies are usually clearer, due to the more pleasant weather and because we are usually on holiday in places like the beach or the mountains, where there is usually less light pollution than in the cities.August is one of the most eagerly awaited astronomical events: the Perseids star shower. Undoubtedly, Andorra offers an unbeatable position for observing them. If you are also waiting for them, here we tell you all about it. What are the Perseids? The Perseids is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the month of August. Every year around this time, the comet Swift-Tuttle passes very close to the Earth, ejecting tiny dust particles. When they enter into combustion with the atmosphere they shoot out as a shower of shooting stars and are visible from all over the northern hemisphere. The most eagerly awaited star shower in AugustWe will be able to see this magnificent spectacle from 17 July to 24 August, but this year they will be seen at their best on 12 August. Enjoy the star shower in the mountains Take advantage of our location to choose a good place to see the Perseids. The Hotel del Tarter, which is located at an altitude of approximately 1,700 metres, is far from large cities. This makes it ideal, as there is little light pollution in the surrounding area. You also don’t need any technical equipment such as binoculars or a telescope. All you need is a good dark place and to lie down on the grass and watch the sky. It is an original activity to do with the whole family, without crowds, surrounded by nature and with pleasant temperatures, and your children are sure to remember this experience forever! Where can you see the Perseids from? – Andorra is a Starlight destination The Comapedrosa Natural Park and other natural areas in La Massana offer one of the darkest and starlit skies in the Pyrenees, ideal for astronomical observation. The low light pollution, combined with the low population density and the territorial organisation in small and medium-sized towns, has led to the recognition of these areas as a Starlight Reserve and Destination. This prestigious international seal, endorsed by UNESCO and the WTO, is awarded to places that meet strict night sky quality criteria, thus highlighting this area as an astronomical destination of excellence. – Other places to see the Perseids In Andorra there are many places to observe the stars, some accessible ones are the Engoslasters lake, where even the electricity museum organises a special night. You can also go to the Sorteny valley in Ordino, or, close to the hotel, the Roc del Quer, which, although closed at night, has a good option for viewing them from its parking area, with spectacular views of the Montaup Valley and, above all, the open sky. – Some recommendations Don’t go into the mountain if you don’t know the trail. Take binoculars with you to see the spectacle. And lastly, dress warmly, as the nights are cool in Andorra. You can book your room now to enjoy one of the most magical nights of the summer in peace and quiet, and don’t forget to make a wish every time you see a shooting star!

Discover Grandvalira’s novelties for the 2023-24 season

Novedades-Grandvalira

Grandvalira has unveiled the new features it has prepared for the 2023-24 season. Among them, they have presented the creation of new slopes, improvements to the infrastructure and the leisure offer, and a firm commitment to sustainability. We can’t wait to tell you everything they have in store! The domain grows with a new skiable area The installation of a Seig chairlift in the Encampadana area of the Canillo sector has enabled the extension of the resort with the creation of 3 new red slopes (Seig, La Font and La Pala) and the addition of 5 km more to the resort. In this way, Grandvalira has grown from this season to 215 km, distributed in 140 slopes for all levels, and 76 ski lifts. Improvements have also been made to the Port-Grau piste to revitalise the Port d’Envalira-Antenes area, which is where the access to the future ICÒNIC high performance high altitude building is located, which will be operational in 2025. Growth in ski mountaineering and snowshoeing circuits In total, Grandvalira now has 53 km of skimo trails and 55 km of snowshoe trails. This season it has added a 5 km ski mountaineering circuit in Soldeu and six snowshoeing circuits totalling a further 15 km in El Tarter, Soldeu and Canillo. In this way, the domain continues its commitment to offering alternative sports to alpine skiing. Improvements in infrastructures and services This season at the El Tarter, Grau Roig and Peretol snowparks you can enjoy up to 8 new freestyle modules. El Pas de la Casa inaugurates the Costa Rodona 2222, a multifunctional building that replaces the previous one. In El Tarter, the car park signage has been renewed to make it more accessible for families and people with reduced mobility. Some of the resort’s restaurants have been renovated and new terraces have been opened to take a break and recover your energy while enjoying the sun. Respect for the environment This is one of the resort’s main priorities. In this sense, it invests heavily in projects that improve sustainability and minimise the impact on the environment. One of the measures taken this season has been to install 88 new snow-growing snowmakers to improve the resort’s network, especially in Pla de Pedres, which is the connection point between the Grau Roig and Soldeu sectors, a key area of the resort. This year they will also carry out a pilot test on the snow groomers at El Tarter, Canillo and Soldeu, which will use 100% plant-based fuel. Finally, the installation of new charging points for electric vehicles and more photovoltaic panels, among other environmental actions, should be highlighted. Competitions and events for 2024 As we have become used to, every season in Grandvalira is full of great competitions and events: – Women’s World Cup On 10 and 11 February, the Audi Fis Ski World Cup slalom and giant slalom events return on the Avet piste in the Soldeu sector. – Launched Kilometre World Cup The fastest skiers in the world will meet on the Riberal de Gra Roig piste from 12 to 15 March. – Snowrow This festival that combines sport and music will be held for the second year in the Grau Roig sector, from 4 to 7 April 2024. And of course, there will be new proposals for après-ski at l’Abarset, undoubtedly the most important meeting point in Andorra to enjoy the gastronomy, and to vibrate and dance with the performances of the collaborating DJs. Finally, a curiosity you won’t want to miss. In 2024 Grandvalira will be celebrating because Soldeu-El Tarter will turn 60 years old. Soldeu was the first Andorran resort to install a chairlift in 1964, and Grandvalira will certainly want to pay tribute to it next year. We will keep you up to date with any special events that take place. If you’re already looking forward to seeing Grandvalira’s new features first hand, you’re just one click away from booking your hotel and ski pass offer. We’re waiting for you!

Good news: the start of the season is just around the corner! Grandvalira Resorts has announced that the Andorran slopes will open from 1 December 2023 to 7 April 2024. If you don’t want to be run out on a rail, here you will find some tips for you to have all your ski equipment ready for the start of the season. This will help you get the most out of your snow holiday in Andorra from the very first minute 😉 Check your boards To get your skis and snowboard in good condition before you hit the slopes, it’s important to repair scratches and scuffs, polish the edges and check the bindings. You can do this on your own when it’s a simple tune-up. But if you detect a malfunction in the bindings, if you see that the boards are deeply scratched or if you don’t have experience in such tasks, the best thing to do is taking them to a specialised workshop. It is also recommended to do this once a year for a general overhaul of the equipment. Clean your boots Make sure your ski boots are clean. Simply wash them inside with water and neutral soap and then disinfect them. It’s best to leave them well stored and dry after the season is over so they don’t take on a bad shape during the summer months. Check the poles Once you’ve got your boards and boots checked over, keep an eye on your ski poles as well. Make sure the handle, strap and rosette are in good condition. If this is not the case, you can either replace the part or consider whether it is time to change them. Check your glasses On the one hand, check that the lenses are not scratched and that you have good visibility. On the other hand, check that the padding covering the glasses is still in good condition and that the strap is not worn. Test the condition of the clothes you are going to wear. This point is also very important. It may happen that from one season to the next, even if only 8 to 9 months have passed, an item of clothing may not fit or may need to be replaced. The best thing to do is to try everything on beforehand. The jacket, the ski trousers, the socks, the snow gloves, the thermal clothing and… All the clothes you are going to wear! This way you can check that everything is in optimum condition. And if not, you’ll have time to buy some of the ski equipment you need. Get a head start on winter. Start preparing all your ski equipment and book your holidays in the snow from 1 December at the Hotel del Tarter.
