Why is it important for children to learn to ski with a monitor?

clases-esqui-ninos-andorra

Learning to ski is an unforgettable experience, especially in leading destinations such as Grandvalira. However, when it comes to children, having a certified ski instructor makes all the difference. Professional instruction not only guarantees safety on the slopes, but also turns the introduction to skiing into a fun and motivating experience. If you are planning a winter holiday in Andorra, choosing children’s ski lessons is an investment in confidence, technique and fun. Learning through play Children’s ski learning must be progressive, dynamic and adapted to each age. A specialized ski instructor applies methodologies designed to turn each lesson into a game. Through circuits, challenges and adapted activities, children work on balance, coordination and speed control almost without realizing it. Even if you have experience in the snow, teaching requires patience, technique and knowledge. A lack of methodology can cause frustration or fear in young children. In contrast, ski lessons with an instructor encourage motivation and enthusiasm, two essential factors for them to want to repeat the experience every winter season in Andorra. Safety on the slopes One of the main reasons to hire a ski instructor is safety on the slopes. Certified instructors are fully familiar with mountain safety rules, braking techniques and the correct way to fall to avoid injuries. In children’s skiing, learning these fundamentals from the beginning is essential. In resorts such as Grandvalira, there are specific areas for beginners and adapted children’s zones. Instructors select the appropriate slopes according to the child’s level, avoiding risky situations. In addition, they know how to manage initial fear and turn a fall into a learning opportunity, strengthening the young skier’s confidence and autonomy. Methodology adapted to each age and level Teaching a three-year-old is not the same as teaching an eight-year-old. Ski schools in Andorra design specific programs according to age and level. In Grandvalira, children’s lessons are structured by groups, which facilitates balanced progress. Instructors use modern ski initiation techniques, first working on adaptation to the equipment, then balance and finally control on gentle slopes. This progression prevents blocks and ensures natural development. In this way, children’s skiing becomes a safe, educational and exciting experience. The best environment to learn to ski in Andorra Choosing the right destination is essential to guarantee a good family skiing experience. Andorra has established itself as one of the best snow tourism destinations, thanks to the quality of its facilities and the professionalism of its schools. Grandvalira stands out for its wide range of ski lessons for adults and children, themed areas and services designed for families. Its well-marked slopes for all levels create the perfect environment for the little ones to learn safely. Young skiers will have a great time If you are planning your next winter holiday in Andorra, choosing a certified instructor is the best decision to ensure your children enjoy, learn and develop a true passion for the snow. Because a good introduction is the guarantee of becoming a snow lover in the future.Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable holiday in Andorra. Book your ski-in hotel with Grandvalira ski pass now. The snow is waiting for you!

Farewell to a record-breaking season after an unforgettable winter in Grandvalira

esqui-grandvalira

As spring arrives and the snow melts, at the Hotel del Tarter we are bringing the 2024-2025 ski season to an end. We would like to thank all the guests who have chosen us to enjoy the snow in Andorra. It has been a winter full of memorable moments. Below, we take a look at the most relevant data and key moments that have marked these months in Grandvalira. A gradual start and an end to the season in great conditions Although the snowfall at the beginning of the season was delayed and did not allow us to open the first weekend of december, Grandvalira Resorts started the season gradually from 8 December. In this way, it became one of the first ski resorts to open in the Pyrenees. Subsequent snowfalls ensured quality snow at Christmas, with a large number of visitors that continued throughout the months of January and February. Thanks to the investments made in recent years in the snowmaking network, Grandvalira has been able to guarantee days of skiing even in periods with less snow.A fact that you will surely remember most recently is the heavy snowfall in March. They left snow thicknesses of up to 250 cm, which meant that we were able to ski in excellent conditions until the Easter long weekend, when we were able to enjoy the last few days of skiing. More days of skiing in Grandvalira Grandvalira ended the season with more than 120 skiable kilometres. A total of 1,700,816 ski days were sold, 2.9% more than last year, during the 134 consecutive days it was open, from 8 December to 20 April. The busiest day for skiers was 28 December, coinciding with the Christmas holiday period. More efficient snow production This season has been marked by two major episodes of snowfall: one in December, coinciding with the opening of the season, and another more intense one in March. In total, Grandvalira accumulated 384 cm of snow, 14% more than the previous season. This increase has made it possible to reduce the use of water for the production of artificial snow, with 1,100,000 m³ transformed, which is 26% less than last year. Even so, the snowmaking network remains essential. The renovation of 239 cannons over the last two winters has significantly improved their efficiency, reducing energy consumption by up to 90% compared to older models. Competitions have also been present this year This season Grandvalira has hosted events such as the men’s European Cup (3 and 4 February), which brought together the best European skiers in Soldeu. The Mamba Ski Race by Joan Verdú was another sporting event of note, with 400 participants in April. Now, the resort is already preparing the women’s alpine skiing World Cup for 2026, which will be held on the Àliga piste with supergiant and downhill events. Nor does it neglect the preparations for the first Freeride World Championships 2026, which will take place for the first time in Andorra, in Ordino Arcalís. Thanks for an unforgettable season… And great news for the next one! The 2024-25 season has been exceptional and we would like to thank all the guests, families and friends who have accompanied us.This summer, however, we will not be opening our doors because we have decided to take a well-deserved break… for a very good reason! We are working on the complete renovation of our rooms, to offer you even more comfortable, modern and cosy accommodation. We can’t wait to show you the result and to show you our new facilities for the next ski season. See you soon in the snow!

How to preserve your ski equipment in summer to extend its lifespan

After a ski season that has ended on a high note, it’s time to think about taking care of your equipment. We still have a few days left to enjoy the snow, so if you want to extend the season, make the most of these last few runs. But when the time comes to say goodbye to the mountain, it is essential to repair and store your equipment correctly so that it is kept in the best conditions until next winter.Good maintenance will not only prolong the lifespan of your ski equipment, but will also ensure it performs better next season. Follow these tips and make sure your equipment is as good as new when you hit the slopes again next year. How to maintain your ski boards Ski board maintenance is key to preventing wear and tear and rust. Follow these steps to keep them in top condition: – Drying and cleaning Before storing, be sure to remove any moisture with a dry cloth, paying special attention to the edges, as moisture can cause them to rust. – Repairing and waxing If the boards have dents or scratches, it is best to repair them before storing them. In addition, it is recommended to apply a layer of protective wax to prevent the sole from drying out. At the start of the new season, simply remove the wax and re-wax to optimise glide. – Adjusting the bindings Loosening the bindings and raising the heel cup will reduce stress on the mechanisms and prevent the parts from deforming. If you are inexperienced in adjusting bindings, have a specialised workshop adjust the bindings. – Proper storage Store the boards in a dry and ventilated place, preferably upright and spaced apart. Avoid damp spaces such as garages or unventilated storage rooms, which can accelerate the deterioration of the material. How to store ski boots in summer The correct maintenance of ski boots is essential to avoid bad smells, deformation and premature wear. – Interior and exterior cleaning: Remove the inner boot and clean it with a mild, neutral product to remove traces of sweat and moisture without damaging it. – Complete drying Allow all parts to dry completely before reassembly. Never store boots wet, as this can lead to mould and unpleasant odours. – Proper fastening Once clean and dry, replace the inner liner and buckle the boots. Leaving boots open or unfastened can cause the plastic to lose its shape over time. – Storage location As with skis, store your boots in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources that can deform them. How to store other ski equipment Complementary ski equipment also needs some care to keep it in good condition: – Helmet The inside of the helmet accumulates sweat and bacteria, so it is advisable to clean it with a neutral soap and a damp cloth. If your helmet has a removable inner liner, wash it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. – Gloves Most ski gloves are machine washable, but if they have leather parts, it is advisable to apply a special wax or cream to prevent them from drying out and cracking. – Ski goggles Clean them with a microfibre cloth and store them in their original case to avoid scratching the lenses. If they have ventilation foam, make sure they are completely dry before storing. – Technical clothing Wash ski jackets and trousers according to the manufacturer’s instructions. It is advisable to use specific detergents for technical clothing that will not damage the waterproof membrane. Also, store them in a dry place without compressing them too much so that they retain their insulating properties. By following these tips, your ski equipment will be in perfect condition for the next season. Good maintenance will not only save you money on repairs and replacements, but will also ensure better performance in the snow. Are you ready for your next mountain adventure? See you in the summer! Stay tuned for our news and we’ll tell you all about what you can do in the spring and summer in anticipation of the next season .
