What to do in Andorra?

What to do in Andorra?

From the Hotel del Tarter you will find many activities to enjoy the mountain and the country, both in winter and in summer. Below, we suggest some of them.

Skiing in Andorra

Grandvalira Resorts is the brand that encompasses all the ski slopes in Andorra: the 7 sectors of Grandvalira, the resorts of Pal-Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís. It has a total of 308 kilometres of slopes for all levels. Skiing is available for beginners to expert skiers who want to enjoy skiing.
The resorts offer activities for lovers of alpine skiing, but also ski mountaineering circuits and snow activities for all tastes, such as snowshoeing, snowmobiling or mushing….. And much more.
For the most freestylers, the Snowpark El Tarter concentrates the most important activity in Southern Europe… A real challenge!
We are located at the foot of the Tarter sector of Grandvalira, opposite the Àliga piste, a piste that has hosted World Cup alpine skiing events.
And very close by is the most fashionable après-ski resort in Andorra: l’Abarset.

Cultural visits in Andorra

Visiting one of the 20 museums that you can find in Andorra, will get to know peculiar aspects of our traditions and they will show you, among other things, how our ancestors lived and what their way of life was.
For art lovers, Andorra has many churches from the pre-Romanesque and Romanesque periods, which are also in places of great natural beauty. You can also admire the singularities of Romanesque art in the civil architecture, visiting emblematic bridges such as the Pont de la Margineda.

Andorra with children

Andorra is an ideal destination to enjoy as a family, where children will discover a thousand and one activities with the advantage that the journeys by car are always short.

In winter, the snow is the main attraction, whether it is to start skiing or to play in a sledge and make fun snowmen. Grandvalira has a ski school for the little ones, a children’s snow circuit and a nursery for children between 1 and 4 years old.

And after skiing, a good skating session at the Palau de Gel, which offers free entry to children under 5 years old as long as they skate accompanied by an adult, also with specific activities and circuits for the kings of the house to enjoy every minute. Or discover the new aquatic activity at the Palau de Gel swimming pool: Splash. Children from 10 years old can have fun on the 3 slides, with a height of 7 metres and a length of 53 metres. Children from 3 years old up to 12 years old can enjoy the slides in the small pool.

In summer, all the ski resorts in Andorra reinvent themselves with the good weather and offer children’s activities linked to the mountains. In the Grandvalira Family Park, located in Canillo, you will find the zip line that flies over the lake and the Magic Gliss. You can go for a ride in a mountain sledge pulled by dogs to discover the Andorran forests, sail in a canoe on the lake, or go on horseback excursions. Other activities are also available, such as slides, walkways, suspension bridges, a bouncy castle area, a ball pool and an outdoor play area.

In Naturland, the adventure park, you can enjoy with your family going down the longest nature slide in the world, with 5.3 km of route, or spend a day in the nature doing activities like horse or pony rides, archery, quads, paintball, elastic beds, electric cars, inflatable children …

The Tibetan Bridge of Canillo and Roc del Quer

We are in the parish of Canillo, near the Palau de Gel, but also very close to the Tibetan Bridge of Canillo. It is a metal footbridge 603 metres long and 158 metres above the ground. The footbridge is located in the Vall del Riu, one of the most beautiful natural sites in Andorra, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. It can only be reached by bus from the village of Canillo or from the Roc del Quer car park and then a short 900-metre walk to the footbridge.
Another of the most famous spots in Canillo is the Roc del Quer viewpoint, from where you can enjoy views of the whole valley and the surrounding peaks. It is a 20-metre long walkway, with 12 metres suspended in the air, and at the end there is a sculpture of a thinker looking out over the landscape.
Tickets for both activities can be purchased on the Tibetan Bridge website.

Hiking in Andorra

The country offers a multitude of proposals for hikers. From easier and more accessible paths to the possibility of reaching the summit of Comapedrosa, the highest peak in the country at 2942 metres, for the most experienced hikers. The Hotel del Tarter is located near the Vall d’Incles, an area rich in fauna and flora and the starting point of numerous lakes, such as Juclà (the largest in the country), Cabana Sorda or Siscaró, among others. But you can also walk the Obac path, a flat path of 2.6 km that goes to the end of the Incles valley.
Near the hotel we also have the Camí del Gall. It is an easy route through the forest that goes from Canillo to Soldeu and that goes through the natural habitat of the Uruguay, a species native to the country.

Cycling in Andorra

With your road bike you’ll find kilometres of tarmac, challenging your limits as you pedal through beautiful valleys. Or you can climb up to 21 mountain passes, some of which are famous for being part of legendary stages of the Tour de France or the Vuelta a España.
But if you prefer mountain biking, you can go on everything from quiet rides along forest tracks to thrilling MTB (or electric bike) or extreme downhill trails, with routes of varying difficulty to choose from.
