One of the most beautiful times of the year to enjoy a family getaway is approaching. From the end of November until the first weekend in January you can find an endless variety of activities for young and old. Here are some of the activities you will find to make the most of Christmas in Andorra.
Christmas Markets
In the town square of the capital you can enjoy the “Poblet de Nadal” (“Christmas Village”) a market inspired in the Nordic ones. Framed in a total Christmas atmosphere: with colorful lights and very typical decoration, trees and wooden booths. Apart from traditional products, you will also find food and drink typical of this time of year. What if you warm up in the icy afternoons of December with a glass of hot wine or a cup of chocolate with “churros”? It will be open from November 29th to December 29th.
In addition, on other single days you will also find more markets distributed throughout the country.
Nativity Scenes: a tradition in Andorra
In Canillo from December the 5th until the end of January, you can enjoy an itinerary through the village where you will find life-size figures representing images of the Bethlehem. There are more than 200. Do you dare to look for them all?
Esteve Albert’s “Pessebre Vivent” is recreated in the square of the church of Escaldes and its surroundings. It premiered for the first time in 1956 and was resumed in 2014. It takes place on 13th and 14th December. It is another activity you can not miss.
Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men’s Rides
On December 24th, Christmas Eve, Santa Claus will walk through all the parishes announcing his arrival and collecting the letters from the children who have not yet delivered them. But we also welcome the Magi on their horseback accompanied by their pages on the evening of January 5. So, if you are away from home on these dates you can receive your gifts as well.
