In Canillo (at 10 minutes from the Hotel), the harlequins take the streets for 3 days. On Saturday there is the parade from Canillo to Soldeu, stopping in Tarter. Tradition says that Harlequins stop at every home in their way to sing, receiving in exchange wine and bread with “ail i oli”. At night, it takes place the party and the costumes competition. Sunday afternoon is dedicated to children, with show and hot chocolate for everyone. This tradition finishes on Monday afternoon because Carnestoltes, who represents Carnival craziness, is judged.
In Encamp (at 15 minutes from the Hotel), smugglers are the main characters of the event. They do bear dance and judgment of the Carnestoltes. Besides, there are activities for older people like burial of the sardine or “pig slaughter”. Most adolescents and young people come to this Carnival to enjoy its famous mobile disco.
